POCKET SLAT~ AND HAGNzrS

The information cbntrrined in this chapter is worth

the prico of the book. Here HO 'Hill be utilising a m
a-

gical invisible force that nevor fails, The magic fo

of the magnet. The application of this principle to
slates

opens the 'Toran' to a vast field of miracles, not t

least of Hhich is the miniature version of the locki
ng

flap slate.

'lbe Pocket Size Dr. Q Slates

To construct a mini2tuI"e locking flap slate is very

easy. Needed is:

1. Two pocket slates. l~ny pocket slates will do pro-

viding the panel is made of material that can be

cut Hith a knife.

2. A 'magnetic flap. t 'r~lis is made by rubber-cementi
ng

two pieces of black art paper with a razor blade in

betHeen and cut to size.

3. Hagnetic rrap.e. This tape is sold in stationery
and hard.~rare stores and comes in various lengths

and widths. The tape sold by the Edmund Scientific

Co. of Barrington, N.J. is ideal. It measures
1/16 inch thicl{, 1 inch 'Hide and comes in a roll

30 inches long. It sells for abt)ut $2.00. He will

need only 3 inches of tape 1 inch wide.

The magnetic tape is stronger on one side than on th
e

other and that is exactly what He need to create the
locldng

flap slate.
To construct the slate do not dis-

mantle it. Just cut a Nindow out of the
panel 1 ~2 inches high by 1 inch 'Hide, Fig.

40. Cement a flap to the und"r' side I
as sho,·m by the diagonal lines in :i?ig. 40. I.~(\ ,
The flap is mado from playin0 card stock
and then covered ... ,'i th black n:!.'t paper.

Into the 'HindoH, lllace a piece
of the magnetic tape to cover the space

THE TELEPATHIC SLATKS

This slate seoret in in-
cluded by per.missan or Al
Plosso, celebrity magic dea-
ler, confidant or the late
great Dunninger and owner ot
the Flosso-Hor.amann Magic 00.
The oldest magic shop in the
USA.

Before disolosing the
secret please read the ad
at the right side or the page
in it's entirity. The whole
thing sounds so impossible.

The ad appeared in the
October 1946 issue of the
Sphinx.

l·iany of the magic dealers
that had sold this item had
almost forgotten it. Al Flosso
remember it and upon my request

made one up for me.

'rHE GAFUS: The two slates
are unprepared. Tre spectfitor
examines both and chooses one.
\fuile the spectator is busy
drawing his nl.lI11ber in the far
corner of the roam the perror-
IIB r adds a flap to the other
slate.

The flap is a especial flap
and the whole crux of the efi'ect.
It is slate-color on one side
and has a covering or black
velvet fabric on the other.

TIe flap is added to the
slate so that the slate-side of
the flap is Showing. The per-
former holds the slate with
the flap side down in his lert
hand. He takes back the slate
from the spectator and places
it face-down under the slate
in his left hand but over the
flap which has dropped from
the top slate.

FOR THE FIRST TIME with a unique'version by AL
FLOSSO, "The Telepathic Slates" have ALREADY
proven themselves more bewildering than any MENTAL
MIRACLE EVER CONCEIVED BY THE INGENUITY
OF MAN I

Can It Be Possible that someone has AT LAST DIS-
COVERED THE DEADLY MIND PARALYZING SECRET OF
GENUINE MENTAL TELEPATHY sought by the wizards of a
thousand long lost generations? Can WE be offering for sale
to the profession, the REVELATION of REVELATIONS -
HOW TO ACTUALLY READ SECRET THOUGHTS BURIED
WITHIN THE DARK RECESSES OF THE THROBBING
BRAIN? Perhaps we are, but we would rather leave the flnal
decision to YOUR Intellectua1 judgment, 80 read onl

Briefly. here Is the MADDENING effect that has LITER-
ALLY STOPPED HUNDREDS DEAD IN THEIR TRACKS
IN ULTIMATE BLOOD FREEZING AWE!

Conceive If you can this actlon-A spectator merely THINKS i
of ANY number, and after critically examining two miniature
slates, chooses one and writes the number IN HTS MIND on I
either side, while the mentsllst turns his back. Following this,
the spectator CONCENTRATES upon a crystal ball which he
himself drew on the second slate, while the slate with his
THOUGHTS Is SAFELY HIDDEN IN HTS POCKET PLACED
THERE BY HIMSELF! The mentalist may be ANY DISTANCE
AWAY, but as the spectator MERELY THINKS of what he has
Inscribed on his slate-SECRET writing which the mentalist
NEVER SAW-the mentalist ACTUALLY REVEALS THE
VERY SAME NUMBER known ONLY to the spectator-HE
READS THE SPECTATOR'S INNERMOST THOUGHTS
WITHOUT RECOURSE TO ANY OF THE KNOWN METH-
ODS! AND-the effect may be REPEATED over and over with
NAMES - GEOMETRICAL DESIGNS - SKETCHES - BIRTH-
DATES-SERIALS-IN FACT ANY THOUGHT that can be
translated Into writing Is accurately divined by the mentalist
In a BREATHTAKING DISPLAY of the seemingly SUPER-
NATURAL POWERS OF CLAIRVOYANCE and THE SIXTH
SENSE!

Take our word for it -THERE ARE NO MIRRORS-
THERE ARE NO CARBON PAPERS - THERE ARE NO
SECRET OPENINGS OR PEEKS AT THE SPECTATOR'S
SLATE-THERE ARE NO CONFEDERATES-THERE ARE NO
FORCES, SLEIGHT-OF-HAND, SWITCHES, ETC., ETC. -

THE TELEPATHIO SLATES •••• oont.

The perfor.mer presses the flap against the under-
side of the lower slate and an impression in chalk powder
will be transferred to the velvet fabric of the flap.

The prefor.mer palms the flap and returns both slates
to the spectator for pooketing.

A glimpse at the velvet side of the flap will give
the chosen number in 'mirror' fashion.

The rest is showmanship.
In the handling the top slate is transferred to the

bottom after the flap is palmed.
